The Maplewood—South Orange Book Festival is proud to present its inaugural keynote speaker, best-selling science writer Mary Roach. Mary will be talking about her new book, Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War.
A New York Times / National Bestseller, Grunt is the latest work by “America’s funniest science writer,” writes the Washington Post. In Grunt, Roach explores the science of keeping human beings intact, awake, sane, uninfected, and uninfested in the bizarre and extreme circumstances of war.
Mary Roach is the author of Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War, Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife, and Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. Her writing has appeared in Outside, Wired, National Geographic, and the New York Times Magazine, among others. She lives in Oakland, California.

Each regular keynote admission ticket ($45) comes with a complimentary paperback copy of Grunt. Premium tickets ($75) include a signed copy of Grunt, as well as admission to the launch party for the Maplewood—South Orange Book Festival. The launch party will be held at the SOPAC Loft from 6:00-7:30PM before the Mary Roach keynote event, and will feature a meet and greet with Mary Roach and other festival authors, light snacks, and an open bar.
